Clicking Towards Compliance

By Margaret Driscoll

As the government pays closer attention to the way America does business, corporations are being held more accountable for the accessibility of their organizations' information. Increasing amounts of new regulations and federal mandates, such as HIPAA and the USA Patriot Act, are demanding that companies revamp their current processes and systems to address escalating concern over national security. Measures of Learning Effectiveness

By Michael Brannick
There is no question about it. Training and development is gaining attention in Corporate America. The industry is growing and changing to achieve a variety of goals, from satisfying immediate employment skill shortages to meeting organizations' long-term strategic needs.

Adding to the difficulty in calculating a KM system's return on investment is that it is not just a matter of installing new software. Maximizing your KM investment requires a change in business processes and practices-where the benefits are not often obvious or immediate. (LEARN MORE)

Scenario-Based E-Learning Model:
A CDC Case Study

By Nancy Gathany and Jeanette Stehr-Green

Whether it's a Web-delivered tutorial, a simulation of a virtual world via CD-ROM, or a simple interactive lesson downloaded from the Web, research shows that well-designed e-learning is effective. One form of e-learning that piques learners' as well as developers' interest is educational simulations. Simulations range in complexity from a straightforward reproduction of a software program to more intricate representations of complex environments such as an interactive community of workers. Educational simulations are designed to give learners an opportunity to practice their knowledge and skills in a risk-free environment. However, not all training needs can be met by simulations, and building simulations can be challenging for novice developers. (LEARN MORE)
