Target X events raising public awareness in over 30
countries
IPPNW medical students
and doctors came together in Freiburg and Rotterdam
in November for two new Target X events, raising local public awareness of the
nuclear threat and generating more enthusiasm for a nuclear-weapons-free world.
Since the first Target X in New York’s Times Square in May 2005, groups of
students in white lab coats have installed giant red X’s representing the
crosshairs of a nuclear target in more than 30 cities around the world, and
have engaged curious passersby in conversations about the consequences of
nuclear war and the urgency of negotiating a Nuclear Weapons Convention. The
Dutch and German events were also used as opportunities to recruit new medical
student activists, and to get them involved with the work of IPPNW and its affiliates.
Target X photos from around the world can be seen on the IPPNW medical student
website.
Student chapters in Nigeria, Latin America, and the US are
working on a new International Student Coalition to Abolish Small Arms. By
sharing One Bullet Stories and information about the global small arms trade,
they hope to raise awareness about small arms violence and contribute to its
prevention. More information about ISCASA can be obtained from US national
student representative Tova Fuller. SEE TARGET X PHOTOS SUPPORT THIS PROJECT
